  • Korean Studies Institute and Memory of the World Experience Center
  • “UNESCO Memory of the World” Houses the Confucian Printing Woodblocks (listed in 2015)
  • The institute specializes in researching and preserving records of traditional Korean culture and sharing their values and meanings. It held the “National Campaign to Collect 100,000 Woodblocks” as part of an all-out effort to discover old records. The institute aims to share Korean values with the world by digitally archiving various records, including the woodblocks.
Dosanseowon Confucian Academy
  • Dosanseowon Confucian AcademyFrom the Goryeo Dynasty (918–1392) to the Joseon Dynasty (1392–1910)
  • “Seowon, Korean Neo-Confucian Academies” ㅣ Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2019
  • This academy’s buildings were built with a concise and simple style representing Toegye Yi Hwang’s character and attitude as a scholar. Over time, the academy turned into a political and social venue where several issues were discussed. The academy is living proof of the development of Korean neo-Confucianism and the establishment of Seowon’s role.
Woryeonggyo Bridge

  • A wooden bridge in Andongho Lake
  • The longest footbridge in Korea, this bridge embodies a couple’s beautiful and sacred love story. In the middle of the bridge stands Woryeongjeong Pavilion.

  • Modi 684, a culture platform
  • In the Gyeongsang-do dialect, the word “Modi” means “together.” The name implies the people’s will to develop the platform and city together. Modi 684 seeks to promote Andong’s sustainable growth as a cultural city that provides improved cultural experiences for citizens while maintaining its identity.

  • Sinse-dong Mural Village
  • A colorful village where the moon shines bright
  • The Village Art Project in 2009, followed by an urban regeneration project and a creative local project, transformed the neighborhood into a popular tourist attraction with colorful murals painted by local artists and residents. There is a story about a rabbit living on the moon that fell in love with the village’s beauty and eventually settled here, which is why a rabbit became the mascot of this small village with a cozy ambiance.

  • Andong traditional market
  • The oldest traditional market in Andong was designated as a market of culture and tourism. Here, visitors can taste a blend of traditional Korean and international cultures through global food carts.

  • “Historic Villages of Korea: Hahoe and Yangdong” ㅣListed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites in 2010
  • The village where the Pungsan Ryu clan resided for about 600 years perfectly depicts the authenticity and integrity of clan villages.
    It is a place where tile-roofed and straw-roofed houses have been quite well preserved for a long time. The NakdongRiver flows around the village in an S shape, which gave the village its name(ha means river and hoe means turning around). Some say Hahoe resembles two connected spirals called taeguek, and others see it as a lotus flower floating on the water, or a boat gliding on the river.
  • Byeongsanseowon Confucian AcademyGoryeo Dynasty (918–1392)
  • “Seowon, Korean Neo-Confucian Academies” ㅣ Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2019
  • After neo-Confucianism settled in Joseon society, the unique architectural style of Seowon was formed, accelerating the spread of this philosophy. The harmonious scenery of nature and buildings depicts the coexistence of nature and humans. Meanwhile, the academy represents Koreans’ gentleness and the tradition of valuing nature.

Path of Seonbi Area Approx. 4 hours

  • Yi Yuksa Wine Tasting Hall
  • This wine tasting hall holds a 17-ton wine tank and is located in Dosan-myeon, Andong, where Yi Yuksa, an independence activist and a Korean poet, was born.
  • Nongam Head House
  • This place is the head house of Nongam Lee Hyeonbo, known for Songs of Fishermen. Here, visitors can enjoy the best scenery of Nakdonggang River.

Yeggi Village Course Approx. 2 hours

  • Yeggi Village
  • Yeggi Village was reborn as a vibrant village through an urban regeneration project. In summer, the entire village gives off a relaxed and chill vibe like that of a Confucian scholar in a blue robe. The word “Yeggi” means “art (Ye) and talent (ggi).” As the name suggests, artistic murals can easily be found in every corner of the village.
  • Seonseonghyun Cultural Heritage Complex
  • The recreation of the site of the Seonseonghyun Government Office allows visitors to get a glimpse of its past and contemplate its significance to gain a better understanding of Korean history and culture. It is also hard to ignore the Seonseonghyun Waterway, which offers a splendid view of Andongho Lake with the Andong Culture and Tourism Complex in the background.

Path of Seonbi Area Approx. 4 hours

  • Sujoldang Historic House
  • This house was built in the 17th century by Dongam Yi Yeong-do, the third-generation descendant of Toegye Yi Hwang, when he moved out of his family home.
  • Lunch (Noodles with Local Dishes)
  • Yi Yuksa Wine Tasting Hall
  • This wine tasting hall holds a 17-ton wine tank and is located in Dosan-myeon, Andong, where Yi Yuksa, an independence activist and a Korean poet, was born.
  • Gosanjeong Pavilion
  • The pavilion was built by Seongseongjae Geum Nan-su, a Joseon Dynasty scholar. He was appointed as the first deputy secretary for successfully defending the Andong area during the Jeongyu War.
